Airlangga University, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine

History of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Airlangga University has its own characteristics that are not owned by the Veterinary Faculty at other universities. Travel establishment of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Airlangga University began in 1962. In 1962, Minister of Higher Education and Science of the Republic of Indonesia, Airlangga University Rector instructed to establish a faculty of exact sciences in the University of Airlangga.

Maybe it was caused partly because the University of Airlangga, initially had a six faculties: the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Letters in Denpasar, Bali, Higher Education Teacher Education (PTPG) in Malang, Faculty of Agriculture in Malang, Faculty Veterinary and Animal Husbandry in Malang. Four faculty last break away from the University of Airlangga. Entered the Faculty of Letters Udayana University in Bali, PTGP turned into IKIP Malang, Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry environmental entered UB in Malang.

The idea of government at that time, requires that each province has a comprehensive university with a comparison eksta and non-exact 2: 1. Airlangga University deemed to have sufficient capacity with the Faculty of Medicine, who has advanced, so that later can develop other exact sciences faculty to be established it.

With a very mature consideration it is necessary to open additional faculty exact sciences, among others Fakulas Veterinary Medicine at the University of Airlangga, because it is very aware that time to complete the medical knowledge in specific areas, let alone been there enough facilities in the Faculty of Medicine and LPMK ( Foot and Mouth Disease Institute) in Surabaya.

In the year 1965 before the outbreak of the G 30 S PKI approach once again held by staff with the Rector of Airlangga University LPMK director who happened to be chairman of PDHI (Indonesian Veterinary Association) East Java, but the response is still not convincing. Director several years ago and chaired by Prof. LPMK. Dr. R. Adiwinata Cape and subsequently became LVK LPMK (Institute of Veterinary Virology). Meanwhile, the Rector of the University of Airlangga replaced by Prof. Dr. Eri Soedewo, Higher Education Coordinating concurrent East Java, Bali and Nusa Tenggara. Begin implementation of the plan there is a bright spot in Surabaya Veterinarians Education.

Noting the development of Veterinarians Education abroad, lack of skilled manpower enterprenuer soul in Eastern Indonesia, although there have been several Faculty of Animal Husbandry, and an increasingly close cooperation between LVK and LKN (National Institutes of Health) with the University of Airlangga pushing for the continuation of the ideals founded the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Airlangga. The emergence of such problems Haemorrhagic fever at that time and the involvement of LVK, Airlangga University School of Medicine researchers and LKN in these diseases, have promoted the establishment of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Director of LVK has been asked to make a consideration establishment of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Surabaya, which have a sufficient response from PDHI East Java.

Further, on 8 February 1968, University of Airlangga summoned all interested parties to convene, discuss the considerations and the formation of the committee Planner The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, although his speech did not satisfy the Director General of Higher Education.
