The course of Veterinary Medicine of CESUMAR prepares students for the academic period, enabling them to work in different areas of Veterinary Medicine, graduating citizens able to apply knowledge towards social development.
At the end of the course, the convicted will be a generalist of Veterinary Medicine, dominating all fields of activity and may act on animal health, medical and surgical preventive veterinary medicine, public health, inspection and technology of animal products, animal husbandry, extension, production, nutrition and animal nutrition, animal breeding and biotechnology, ecology, sanitation and environmental protection. For this, the course has faculty comprise 20% of teachers, 80% of doctors and doctoral students and a physical structure that has Veterinary Hospital, Laboratories and Experimental Farm.
Veterinary Hospital is located in the maintenance bays, surgical centers and clinics for small and large animals, where animals are treated in the community and region. Laboratories of Veterinary Anatomy, Veterinary Pathology, Clinical Analysis, Diagnostic Imaging, Radiographic Interpretation, Preventive Veterinary Medicine, Anaesthesiology and Surgical Technique are used for practical classes, diagnosis and treatment of animals.
The course lasts five years full time and has a campus experimental three hundred hectares, located 10 km from Maringá.
This campus are installed herds of cattle, sheep, goats, horses and in vitro fertilization laboratory, animal feed factory and field agrostology. In this environment, students may practice the acquired knowledge in the disciplines of production and animal breeding, surgical technique and anesthesia, as well as participate in research projects in pure and applied.
The CESUMAR seeks to educate its students preparing them for research and extension in different segments of Veterinary Medicine. For this, the following ongoing projects:
- Clinical care and surgical and anesthesia to animals of small or large, wild animals;
- Clinical analysis and research of parasites;
- Services necropsy, histopathology and issuance of technical reports or fragments of animal carcasses;
- Veterinary Medical Assistance and advice to pig farmers, poultry, horses, sheep, goats in the northwestern region of Paraná;
- Equine breeding season;
- Program embryo transfers horses and cattle;
- Project Milk Iguatemi;
- Project Citizen carter (awarded by the Federal Government in April 2004);
- Project Sum;
- The incidence of diseases affecting animals and / or the man in Maringá.
