
Duration: 10 periods (semesters), with nine compulsory subjects divided into basic and vocational areas and the last half reserved for compulsory training
Hours: 4125 hours / class.
The course of Veterinary Medicine UFERSA, old ESAM, was recognized by the Ministerial Decree No. 376 of 03.05.2001 and No. 995 of March 30, 2005.
The syllabus of the course undergoes constant revision, and the last curricular reform was implemented in 2004.
It is hoped that the course helps to develop in the future (a) professional a critical view of reality and respect for all life forms. The maturation of (a) student during the course should arouse an ethical stance on its social, economic and environmental in the various fields.
Fields of ExpertiseThe playing field of veterinary medicine is broad, involving:
- Prevention and cure of diseases in animals - wildlife, pets, livestock for slaughter, the sporting tradition in zoos or laboratories - in order to also prevent transmission of disease to humans.
- Caring for pets and wild, giving them medical and surgical treatment, prescribing medications, making surgery and applying vaccines;
- Advise owners or directly take care of the welfare and feeding of animals, as well as performing autopsies to discover the cause of death of animals.
- Quality control of livestock and in food of animal origin.
- Planning and coordinating programs for protecting their health, protection and development of the herds.
- Expertise in laboratories in industry and education institutions and research.
- Coordination of production, quality control and sale of food, feed, vitamins, vaccines and medicines.
- Expertise in controlling the use of prohibited drugs;
- Expertise in competitions and exhibitions of animals, performing skills to prevent fraud;
- Study of wild animals in captivity or in their habitat, worrying about their reproduction and preservation.
- Genetic Improvement, seeking quality production. production technologies;
- Technical responsibility in the food industry, making sanitary control of meat, chicken, milk, fish, honey and other foods and animal products and derivatives,
- Supervision of slaughter of animals in slaughterhouses or refrigerators, inspecting foods of animal origin to prevent contamination by animal diseases or substances such as antibiotics, pesticides and herbicides,
- Find, with other scientists, prevention and cure of human diseases transmitted by animals and animal behavior;
- Recover or acclimatise endangered species;
- To direct and supervise educational institutions, veterinary;
- Driving veterinary hospitals;
- To study wild animals in the wild or in captivity;
- Manage the production of medicines (serums, vaccines and wormers) and food (food, vitamins).
- Industry marketing business and technical assistance to the consumer;
- Improve the creations through genetic improvement, feeding, breeding techniques and biotechnology.
