The Veterinary Medicine course aims at training of highly qualified professionals in activities related to economic production of breeding stock, therefore, professionally trained to:
a) supervision, coordination and technical guidance;
b) study, project planning and specification;
c) economic feasibility study;
d) assistance, advice and consultancy;
e) direction of work and technical service;
f) survey, investigation, evaluation, arbitration, reports and technical advice;
g) performance of office and technical function;
h) education, research, analysis, experimentation, testing and disseminating technical extension;
i) budgeting;
j) standardization, measurement and quality control;
l) technical production and specialized;
f) conducting technical work.
The veterinarian is responsible for the execution of the activities mentioned above relating them to the areas of Animal Production, Animal Science, Prevention, Surgery, Inspection and Quality Control of Animal Products, Ecology, Animal Sanitary Defense, Animal Breeding, Animal Reproduction , Nutrition, Bromatology, Feed Preparation, Dairy, Rural Economy and Rural Credit, including their related services and correlates.
2. OBJECTIVES AND CHARACTERISTICS
The course of Veterinary Medicine UENF aims to graduate professionals with deep knowledge of scientific principles that underpin their profession, in the general direction of greater "scope and breadth of knowledge and integrated into the production system, which occurs from the early years of professional training. Emphasis is given to the local productive sector, through demonstration units and projects in rural properties. The UENF also has a program of scientific initiation in scientific research aimed at introducing students to graduate. In this perspective, initiation methodology takes the student to develop a mindset for understanding and sustainable change reality. With a faculty composed only by doctors who, in addition to acting in school, are also research and extension activities, students of Veterinary Medicine UENF are familiar with these activities since the beginning of the course.
3. SOCIAL NEEDS OF THE COURSE
The North Fluminense's main economic activities in agriculture and livestock. However, although the State of Rio de Janeiro has 10 courses of Veterinary Medicine, the only course of UENF is located in this region. Thus, the Course of Veterinary Medicine UENF widened the opportunities for university education for the population of North and neighboring areas, offering 40 places per year.
4. FASHION ENTRANCE
Admission to the Undergraduate Program in Veterinary Medicine has always been done via the Vestibular contest. In 1998, reformulated to the form of admission in the courses, the creation of a partnership between the University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) and other institutions of higher education in the state: Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense (UENF), Academy Military Police D. John VI of the Military Police of Rio de Janeiro (APM Dom - PMERJ) and the School of Education and Training of Officers of the Fire Brigade of Rio de Janeiro (EFSA-CBMERJ).
With the new format of the vestibular, the vacancies for the course increased considerably. Already in 1998 amounted to 25 (twenty five) positions. From the Vestibular 2000 began to be offered 40 places for the Course of Veterinary Medicine.
5. CURRICULUM ORGANIZATION
The Course curriculum consists of courses organized in Basic Contents, Contents and General Career Content and fully meets the minimum requirements of the MEC for the Course of Veterinary Medicine.
The State University of Norte Fluminense adopts the credit system and follows the standard that is expressed in a fixed amount of time learning activity. The reference unit is given by the value accorded to an hour-class activity or two hours theoretical-practical activity lessons in the course of one academic semester, which the North Fluminense State University are 17 (seventeen) weeks. Therefore, 01 (a) credit amounts to 17 (seventeen) hours of theoretical activity or the 34 (thirty-four) hours of practical activity.
