
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Valencia (FMVV) was designed in 1988 to meet the public profile of an agricultural region. In September 1995 she obtained permission to operate in February 1996 and received the 1st class of students approved in vestibular own. In July 2000 formed the first class and on March 28, 2001 the college is recognized by the MEC, through Decree n º 638.
The target audience has diversified since the college began to receive students from all the municipalities in the State of Rio de Janeiro and some other cities of neighboring states. Accompanying this movement and growth of importance of veterinarians in the socio-economic scenario of the country, a strong feature of exporting their agricultural production, not only the needs of the region was restricted to academic education taught in class faculty members.
The Campus FMVV is formed by the Veterinary School Hospital (LVH), where they are seen large animals in general (Department of Large Animal Clinic) and recovered and treated intensively, wild animals from around the state and municipalities environment (Recovery Center Intensive Wildlife - SEALS). The LVH has a Division of Production, where animals are kept to support the teaching and use of production potential of the area. It also has a Veterinary Clinic located in Central Campus School of CESVA, with clinics for small animals, diagnostic rooms support (radiology, ultrasound, etc.) and surgical center. The FMVV still owns the Shed of the teamster and a complex of classrooms and laboratories on the campus of Central CESVA.
The course consists of various disciplines that make up the training of veterinarians in general character. They are organized into departments by higher affinity of knowledge, namely: a) Department of Basic Training, b) Department of General Education, c) Department of Clinical Surgery and Animal Reproduction, d) Department of Animal Production, and e) Department Health Surveillance.
The Veterinary Medicine Course of CESVA / FAA aims to form a professional generalist veterinarian, able to develop the basic functions of the profession, such as: - the guidance and coordination of animal production models, thus generating food excellent quality and safe to the consumer, be it human or animal, the promotion of animal health in its various levels and the preservation of health in human populations through the existing health programs, and environmental protection so as to allow the evolution of human populations and animals without compromising the natural balance of the planet.
Comprised of ten (10) six-month periods, the course works full time and offers 40 places per period. After walking along the academic path, comprising a total workload of 4335 hours, the student receives the title of Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine.
The Biomedical Center, a sector responsible for most of the initial training of academic and located in the Campus I of the FAA, is divided into three (03) floors. This Unit was inaugurated on February 14 of 2006 aiming at the integration of basic education from schools of medicine, nursing, dentistry and veterinary medicine, combining theoretical and practical activities, and rationalizing the physical spaces in order to promote improvements in quality of CESVA teaching. It consists of eleven areas of education, namely: Microbiology, Immunology, Parasitology, Morphology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Physiological Sciences, Scientific Methodology and Informatics. All are key to the understanding of the disciplines of professional cycle of courses in the area of health.
