Umuarama, a city in northwestern Paraná, with about one hundred thousand inhabitants, by position in the state scenario, was chosen to host one of the biggest projects the couple Neiva Pavan Machado Garcia and Candido Garcia, who in the early 1970s, came from Tupa SP ready to consider the region with investments in higher education.
Realizing that the region had great potential for development, acquired a convent school to install in 1972, the first college in the city: the FAFIU (Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters of Umuarama). The sponsor - APEC (Association of Education and Culture Paranaense) - was introduced one year earlier (on January 25, 1971).
With undergraduate programs - Education, Mathematics, Social Studies and Literature - since the first major mission of the institution was to train teachers for schools that, in most cases, had a lay faculty, the FAFIU experienced a rapid growth and recognition. That inspired the couple to expand the project. From there, never stopped.
1996 So did the course in Veterinary Medicine. That year, his creation originated Facatativá (Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technology). The growth necessitated the expansion of physical space, leading to UNIPAR to acquire a large peripheral field (25 acres) for the implementation of the Campus II (Campus Cruzeiro)
