The Veterinary Medicine course is taught entirely on Campus Palotina. By choosing this career the candidate at the time of enrollment in college entrance examination, which defines campus intends to study, since the course also offers UFPR Curitiba.
The course of Veterinary Medicine is to train skilled professionals to work in the areas of medical and surgical management of domestic and wild animals, and animal production, inspection, and technology products of animal origin, public health, environmental preservation, among other . To supplement the lectures the students receive practical lessons in the veterinary hospital and the various campus laboratories and could perform internships at zoos, in cooperatives, farm to farm, private clinics for small animals, stables, etc.. Every year the program welcomes 60 new students. The course, whose classes are taught in the morning and afternoon, is five years.
In 2009, new students have entered into a new pedagogical model, whose subjects were only half, and the test with 2 entrances, one in the first half (40 students) and another in the second (40 seats). Furthermore, the process of Curricular Reform has brought substantial changes to the training of the veterinarian.
The areas with the veterinarian are very varied. Besides acting as a professional person, practicing clinical and surgery of animals, the professional in the field can work in public or private enterprises, developing surveillance activities aiming at the preservation of public health and animal production, nutrition and animal breeding; of environmental preservation, planning, administration and rural economy, rural extension and research both in health and in animal husbandry and inspection of products of animal origin.
Sources employers of veterinarians are veterinary hospitals and clinics, zoos and parks, as well as laboratories of medicines and vaccines, public and private companies for technical assistance and research cooperative of animal products and private farms.
