The course of Veterinary Medicine UNIVASF arose from the need to meet the socio-regional demand, having as main objective the training of higher level professional, capable of performing scientific and technical-professional acting as an agent committed to promoting social development sustainable and continuous improvement of the environment. In this sense, the training of professionals in this area is of vital importance to the improvement of livestock production in semi-arid.
The expectation is that the training of veterinarians in the region brings benefits to small farmers, increasing their income through the use of alternative and more appropriate management and, for large producers, innovating with the use of technologies developed at the University, reducing the impact on ecosystems natural.
The curriculum of Veterinary Medicine UNIVASF in line with the guidance established by the National Curriculum Guidelines for Undergraduate courses in Veterinary Medicine (Resolution 04/2006-CNE), offers a Veterinarian clearance through a generalist, with order to meet the needs for the region and current trends in contemporary academia.
The contents should include:
Life Sciences and Health - includes the content (theoretical and practical) from basic molecular and cellular processes of normal and altered the structure and function of tissues, organs, systems and appliances, as well as biochemical processes, biophysical, microbiological, immunological , molecular genetics and bioinformatics throughout the development of health-disease process, inherent in Veterinary Medicine.
Humanities and Social Sciences - includes the content for the various dimensions of the relationship between individual and society, contributing to a comprehension of the social, cultural, behavioral, psychological, environmental, ethical and legal content involving communication, computing, economics and administrative management at the individual and collective.
Science Veterinary Medicine - includes the theoretical and practical issues related to health and disease, animal production and environment, with emphasis on areas of Animal Health, Veterinary Clinic and Surgery, Preventive Veterinary Medicine, Public Health and Animal Science, Animal Production and Inspection and Technology of Animal Products, covering the theoretical and practical content below:
a) Animal Husbandry and Production - involving farming systems, management, nutrition, reproductive biotechnologies, environmentally sustainable and economic exploitation, including agribusiness.
b) Inspection and Technology of Animal Products - including sorting, processing, standardization, maintenance and inspection of sanitary and hygienic products of animal origin and their derivatives.
c) Veterinary Clinic - incorporating knowledge of clinical, surgical and pathophysiology of reproduction with emphasis on semiological and laboratory, aimed at determining the etiology, diagnosis and medical or surgical treatment of diseases of different natures.
Preventive Veterinary Medicine and Public Health - bringing together content essential activities for the health planning, epidemiology, control and eradication of infectious diseases, parasitic diseases and zoonoses, environmental sanitation, production and control of biological products.
