The Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul had its origin in 1962 in the south of the then state of Mato Grosso.
Taking as a center of a hypothetical circle the campus of Campo Grande and Ethics covers a wide geographical area and educational area which results in a radius of 500 km, reaches nearly a hundred cities, including neighboring states and countries such as Paraguay and Bolivia , where the stems of their students-agreement. Headquartered in Campo Grande, with three centers (CCBS, CCET and CCHS), the UFMS maintains campuses in four cities (Aquidauana, Corumbá, Gold and Three Ponds) decentralizing education to meet the main lines of development of the state.
In order to overcome the critical goals of improving the teaching and encouragement of research and extension, the UFMS has been involved in education and conservation of natural resources of the environment, especially flora and fauna of the Pantanal region where it is, and that motivates studies and ecological research in the institution.
The University has campuses installed in 10 cities of the interior: Aquidauana, Bonito, Chapadao do Sul, Corumbá, Cochin, Naviraí, New Andradina Paranaíba, Ponta Pora and Three Lakes.
