Welcome from the School Dean

Welcome to the School of Veterinary & Biomedical Sciences.

The School is home to the Veterinary Science course, the Biomedical Science course, the Animal Science course and the Health and Environment course. There are many postgraduate study opportunities through our Office of Continuing Veterinary Education and the Master of Veterinary Science, as well as research opportunities, particularly in the area of the School's research strengths in Biomolecular Control of Disease, Production Animals and Clinical Sciences. International students are accepted into the various programmes.

The Murdoch University Veterinary Trust was established in 1997 and is independently administered. Its goals are to provide resources important for the long-term quality of the teaching programme and research efforts of the School of Veterinary Biomedical Sciences.

Professor Ian Robertson, BVSc QLD, PhD Massey, MACVS
Acting Dean

The Murdoch University Veterinary Trust was established in 1996 and was launched by well-known author Sara Henderson. The Trust was developed to service the increasing needs of funding for the School's important and growing work.

Along with the training of undergraduate students in Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences, the School is heavily involved with research into animal and human diseases, and in the training of specialist veterinarians in their fields of choice. The School has a Veterinary Hospital: one of the best equipped in the country, which employs staff in all areas of expertise including small animal medicine and surgery, small animal emergency medicine, equine medicine and surgery, and production animal medicine and surgery. In order to fund the non-teaching work of the School, we rely on the ongoing financial support of our Industry colleagues, and members of the public. Ongoing support is vital, and allows Murdoch to lead the way, and provide “International excellence in Veterinary Science”.

Since its launch, the Trust has made a significant contribution to the advancement of Australian veterinary science and education. The Veterinary Trust is a registered 'Deductible Gift Recipient', and as such, is eligible to receive income from 'Prescribed Personal Funds'. Contributions to the Veterinary Trust are tax deductible, and may be used for varied purposes, such as equipment purchase, facility upgrading, scholarships, or research funding.  For more information on being involved with the trust see "Help the Trust".
