Application Deadline - NOTE NEW DEADLINE FOR IOWA RESIDENTS

Iowa Resident Deadline:  September 1, 2010

Contract and non-resident deadline: October 1, 2010 at 12:00 PM (noon) Eastern Time

VMCAS Application
All applicants must apply through the Veterinary Medical Application Service (VMCAS). Their online web application may be accessed at http://www.aavmc.org/vmcas/vmcas.htm. Iowa residents: The web application and the VMCAS fee must be submitted to VMCAS by September 1, 2010.  All other applicants (contract and non-resident):  The web application and the VMCAS fee must be submitted to VMCAS by 12:00 noon October 1, 2010.

Letters of Recommendation
Three electronic letters of recommendation are required to be submitted through VMCAS. Up to six letters of recommendation will be accepted if filed electronically through VMCAS. The applicant is strongly encouraged to have at least one of these recommendations from a veterinarian. Other suggested evaluators include academic advisors or professors and employers. The evaluator should know the applicant well and be able to speak to their personal characteristics and attributes. It is preferred that the evaluator include comments or a letter with the form evaluation. A letter can be composed in the comments section of the VMCAS electronic letter of evaluation. Evaluators cannot be related to the applicant by blood or marriage. Instruction on submitting your letters of recommendation to VMCAS can be found at http://www.aavmc.org/vmcas/vmcas.htm. Iowa residents: The letters of recommendation must be submitted to VMCAS by September 1, 2010.  All other applicants (contract and non-resident):  The letters of recommendation must be submitted to VMCAS by 12:00 PM (noon) on October 1, 2010.

Should the Admissions Committee need to clarify information provided in the application or recommendation, they may elect to contact the applicant or evaluator.

Graduate Record Exam (GRE)
Iowa residents:  Official results of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) general test must be RECEIVED by the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University by September 1, 2010.  In order to assure the scores arrive by this date, please take the test no later than August 15, 2010. 

NON-RESIDENT AND CONTRACT APPLICANTS PLEASE NOTE:  Due to the change in the GRE, the deadline for receipt of the GRE is November 5, 2010.  The exam must still have been taken by September 15, 2010.

All other applicants (contract and non-resident):  Official results of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) general test must be RECEIVED by the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University by November 5, 2010.  In order to assure the scores arrive by this date, please take the test no later than September 15, 2010. The ISU College of Veterinary Medicine GRE code is 6315. Further information on the GRE can be found at www.gre.org.

PLEASE NOTE: We will no longer be able to transfer GRE scores that are sent to the the Iowa State University General Admissions Office. Please make sure you use the ISU College of Veterinary Medicine GRE code, 6315.

Transcripts
Official transcripts for ALL college-level coursework (undergraduate, graduate and continuing education) must be sent directly to the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University. DO NOT send them to VMCAS. Please send transcripts to:

Official transcripts from ALL postsecondary institutions you have attended are required. This is necessary even though credits may show up as transfer credits on another institutions transcript, you took only one course at the institution, or you took the college credits during high school.

If credits taken at a foreign (non-U.S.) institution are used to fulfill a preveterinary requirement, the applicant must provide a copy of the foreign institution’s transcript, even if they appear as transfer credits on a U.S. institution’s transcript. This includes courses taken as study abroad.

IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS DO NOT NEED TO REQUEST AN OFFICIAL IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY TRANSCRIPT. However, ISU students need to request transcripts be sent to the College of Veterinary Medicine from any other institutions they have attended, even if they had the transcripts sent previously to ISU for another degree program.

Iowa residents:  The postmark deadline for transcripts is September 1, 2010.

All other applicants (contract and non-resident):  The postmark deadline for transcripts is October 1, 2010.

ISU-CVM Supplemental Application

After completing the supplemental application, print a copy for your records. Submit the supplemental application and print the signature page.  The signed signature page and $75 processing fee for US citizens or $95 processing fee for international applicants must be sent to the following address.  (Processing fees are pending approvel.)

Checks for the processing fee should be made payable to Iowa State University. Please be sure your VMCAS ID is written on the signature page and on the check.  ISU DEGREE SEEKING STUDENTS AND ALUMNI DO NOT NEED TO PAY THE APPLICATION FEE.

Iowa residents:  The supplemental application must be completed and the signature page and check must be postmarked by September 1, 2010.  All other applicants (contract and non-resident):  The supplemental application must be completed and the signature page and check must be postmarked by October 1, 2010.  Applicants not submitting the signature page and processing fee will not be considered for admission.

International Applicants
International applicants are considered in the non-resident/non-contract pool of applicants and must meet the same criteria as U.S. applicants. If you are an international applicant, please review the Instructions for International Applicants.

Interviews
Interviews are tentatively scheduled for the following dates and are subject to change.  Applicants will receive notification approximately 3-4 weeks prior to the interview. The interviews will be one hour in length and will be held from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

January 8-9, 2011

January 22-23, 2011

 

Checking the Status of Your Application
Upon receipt of the VMCAS application, applications will be reviewed for completeness, GPA eligibility, and required coursework.  Applicants are able to check the status of their application online.  Here, they will see what materials have been received as well as notes concerning any problems with their application.  They will receive an e-mail indicating their status page has been updated when additional materials arrive or problems are found with their application.

All communication with the applicant will be by e-mail so it is imperative that we have a current working e-mail address. Please note that some e-mail providers such as hotmail, yahoo and MSN may reject mail from Iowa State University or place it in a junk mail folder.

It is the applicant's responsibility to see that all materials are received and that the College is notified of how problems with their application will be remedied. By checking the status page frequently, applicants will be able to quickly resolve any problems with their application.
