University of Alaska at Fairbanks Veterinary Medicine

Alaskans take great pride in their individuality, and Alaska's flagship university campus is no different. Choose UAF and you begin a college career that can lead you in any professional direction.
UAF's 9,828 students come from Alaska, most other states, and 52 foreign countries. About half graduated from high school in Alaska and more than 200 are international students. Undergraduate students make up 89 percent of the total student body. UAF has many non-traditional students. Some are returning to college after years of working or raising a family while others work full time while attending school or are pursuing a second associate or bachelor's degree. Faculty teach classes at every level, which means you're able to start building relationships with professors from the beginning.
The Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines opened its doors in 1922. The school grew quickly, and in 1935 became the University of Alaska. By the time Alaska became a state in 1959, students could earn Ph.D.s at the university. UAF remains the only campus in the state that awards doctoral degrees and it holds the distinction of being one of the few Land, Sea and Space Grant universities in the country.
Today, the modern campus brings high-speed Internet and cable TV to students who can still enjoy the ski and running trails, oral histories and arctic discoveries of generations of students who came before them.
If you think excellent academics, attentive faculty and abundant opportunity sound exciting, then consider UAF.
The University of Alaska Board of Regents approved UAF's latest mission statement at its June 8, 2006 meeting in Kodiak. The following statement is now contained in UA Board of Regents Policy 10.01.03:
The University of Alaska Fairbanks, the nation's northernmost Land, Sea and Space Grant university and international research center, advances and disseminates knowledge through teaching, research and public service with an emphasis on Alaska, the circumpolar North and their diverse peoples. UAF--America's arctic university--promotes academic excellence, student success and lifelong learning.
