BANAT UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES AND VETERINARY MEDICINE TIMISOARA

The mission of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is to train highly skilled specialists (veterinary doctors) capable of meeting the challenges of the 21st century, a century in which veterinaries aim at defending animal health, protecting the animals, preventing the transfer of disease from animals to humans, ensuring animal food safety and fodder hygiene, and protecting the environment. All these desiderata can only be achieved by combining teaching and research activities.
The history of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine dates back on December 31, 1944, when the Royal House issued the Royal Decree No. 660 published in the Monitorul Oficial No. 302, established the University of the West in Timisoara with 7 faculties: law, philosophy, science, human medicine, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, and theology.
From subjective reasons, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine only started to operate in 1948, in Arad (Arad County) within another structure. It carried on its activity until 1957, when, again because of subjective reasons, it is dissolved, though it had managed to become well known both domestically and abroad. Thus, because of foul play, a valuable nucleus of teachers and a valuable material basis was dissipated.
The tormented and painful changes in Romanian agriculture at the time resulted in an increase of the number of animals and in a revival of the animal breeding education. This asked for a faculty of veterinary medicine in Western Romania too. The Rector of the Agronomic Institute in Timisoara at the time, Professor Iulian Dracea, a fervent supporter of academic education in Timisoara, made all the necessary steps to achieve this goal.
Thus, by the Decision of the Council of Ministers No. 428 from May 23, 1962, they established the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine that started to operate with the academic year 1962-1963 within the Agronomic Institute in Timisoara
Acceptance into the E.U. has brought a wide range of possibilities for young people who are willing to study. The European Credit Transfer system allows any of the students in our university to choose to continue their studies or study for one semester in any university of the same profile in Europe. At the same time, our university is acknowledged throughout Europe, and therefore the graduates from our university can work in their domain of competence in any country, based on their diploma.
One of our major present interests lies in enhancing the quality of education in order to make our graduates competitive at world level. We are pursuing this by conducting scientific research that places our university among the best universities in Romania and not only.
We work at European standards, for the benefit of the students, in order to be able to offer them a future to match their aspirations.
We are waiting for young people willing to gain solid professional training experience, which is possible in our university, as it has all the premises for the realization of such a desideratum. Think seriously about your European future, which is, at the same time, the European future of the university!
