University of Batna

In its evolution, University of Batna went through several phases of restructuring. The first milestone in its history dating back to September 1977 when it was created by presidential decree as a center comprising two university institutes of higher education:
- The first milestone in its history dates back to September 1977, Decree 77/79 of June 1977, the date of its establishment as a university center comprising 2 institutes: Law and Letters in the premises of a former farm located in industrial area.
- In 1979, a former school converted for the occasion, which hosts the opening of science and the transfer of institutions and legal letters from the farm. As well, there was the launch of the Institute of Agronomy in the premises of the former farm.
- In 1980, the Institute of Agronomy and Veterinary starting their courses in an ex-CFPA or dormitories were constructed in laboratories.
- In 1982, a 2nd training center technicians building (MATUC) provides the framework for the opening of the Veterinary Institute. During the same year, there was the launch of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering Departments
- In 1985, the university was restructured into 6 national institutes of higher education-INES-: Economic and Legal Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences, Medical Sciences, Languages and Literature Arabic and hydraulics.
- In 1990, the INES were dissolved to give birth to university institutes comprising combining them within several departments.
From 1990 to 1999, the university has been very developed, either in number of institutes and departments, or educational facilities and accommodation and largest number of students increased from 10,000 to more than 20000.

The University Today 
Today the University is reorganized administratively into 7 faculties and one institute university in industrial hygiene and safety, comprising 38 departments spread over various sites.
- Hajj lakhder Campus: Faculty of Science, Economics, Literature and Humanities, the National hgiène and industrial safety and part of the Engineering Sciences.
- I CUB: (campus Abrouk Madani): Faculty of Engineering Sciences.
- CUB II (Campus Benbâatouche): Faculty of Legal Sciences and Political Science.
- Tahar H'liss Campus: Faculty of Social Sciences and Islamic Sciences.
- ITE Larbi Tebessi: Department of Social and demography.
- MATUC: Biology
- ISM Complex Bio-medical: medical school
- CFPA road Tazoult: Pharmacy Department
- The Hajj Lakhder campus remains the largest with a capacity of 18000PP welcoming 52,412 students graduated, 2506 post graduate students and 1494 teachers permanent.
To cope with this increase of students, a new university center of 22000PP is underway Fesdis located at 10km from the town of Batna.
